863 High Performance Computer Evaluation Center

863 High Performance Evaluation Center was founded in November, 2004 in Tsinghua University. The target of the center is to provide performance evaluation service for high performance computers in China. The center also focuses on research on evaluation techniques for high performance computing systems and benchmark development. Since its establishment, the center has made a great progress in collecting user requirements, analyzing characteristics of parallel applications, and developing benchmarks for special application areas. The center is now working on automatic modeling and analysis techniques to build models for applications and systems and to predict the performance for future high performance computing systems.

The center has provided evaluation services for tens of institutions such as Shandong University, Zhongshan University, Peking University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Dawning Company, etc. It also helps the users find system failures and potential problems. Besides, the center has cooperated with SAMSS in the publication of Chinese Ranking of Top100 Supercomputers. It cooperated with Intel in the 2007 National Multi-core Programming Contest, which attracted over 3000 participants and effectively facilitated the development of high performance computing technology. The center has also been focusing on the research of several related fields such as performance prediction of parallel programs, analysis of workload characteristics, development of benchmarks.
